Cherish Memories

After we received both the Thunder and Rainbow badges we happened across a shy female Vulpix who hid from any one that approached her. I thought to try and capture her as she was near death, but I soon found that she had an owner.

Of course we didn’t know that it was her owner that put her in the condition she was in…

Zen and I took him on in a battle for ownership of the Vulpix. He used several other Pokemon that could not compete with Zen at all. After the battle Zen and I rushed the little fox to the Pokemon Center.

Nurse Joy was not happy when we explained the circumstances of our acquiring the Pokemon that she knew as belonging to another trainer. She called the local police to the scene and I again repeated the story.

Turns out our cherished little fox was used for adult entertainment and fights, and was abused when she did not follow orders.

Her former trainer is now in jail, and all his Pokemon have been rehabilitated, released, or destroyed as needed. I immediately gave the Vulpix a new name, Cherish.

She was wary of Zen for quite some time before warming up to him. She still dislikes most male humans, and only approaches one male trainer I’m on good terms with.

Sorry Trent, but we had to name you here, after all you’re not only my Rival, you are my best friend.

Endless Water

Zen and I weren’t as prepared as we could have been for the Cerulean City gym. We managed a win on luck alone, but I wasn’t very comfortable with the idea. I made a promise to train harder before our next gym battle. We were still only a team of trainer and one Pokémon after all…

"Why back down? We can turn the situation around and beat them at their own game… Go, Zen!"

Leaving…

Once Zen and I had battled with the other new trainers, and healed up, we set out on our own path through Route One.

We saw plenty of Pokémon that would have many new trainers rushing to capture them, but we wanted to make the best team of them all. So we battled, built up our strengths and explored our weaknesses.

We did pick up a small ally for a while in an Oddish we traded a Rattata for. Without Oddish’s help we probably wouldn’t have beat Brock in Pewter.

But Oddish wasn’t happy with battling other trainers, so we let him go, we hope he never was captured again…

At first…

Like any other trainer I started with one Pokémon in a normal pokéball. The professor that I spoke with before I started my journey was Professor Oak, a kind soul. I was one of seven that had to start their journey that year (I was a year late because of my family problems and subsequent move from Johto to Kanto with my mother). Aside from the standard three Kanto starters (Squirtle, Bulbasaur, and Charmander) he also had three Johto starters (Cyndaquil, Totodile, and Chikorita) and a special starter for the last to arrive, a loser’s gift if that.

I was the last to arrive, mainly due to my mother intercepting a gift that my father sent me for my journey, so I obtained the special Pokémon as my starter. I still cannot tell you how glad I am that I was late that fateful day, I got the best starter Pokémon of all.

… an Eevee.
